I really liked this book. There was points were I was asking myself what was actually happening but it was still good.
It's not perfect in my eyes. It has it flaws but it's still enjoyable. Very easy to read very quickly.

This was quite a good read. At the beginning, I was completely hooked. It was exactly the kind of YA book I was after! The characters were interesting, as was the premise of the book.

However, the charm started to wear off around the time she started her new prep school. As much as I liked Avery, her thoughts started to get quite repetitive. E.g. the fact that Libby would never hurt her. The quote from Nash. Emily. It may have been to remind the reader of how everything links together, but it made the story a bit boring at times. In contrast, I was constantly thinking about it when I started it.

Even though I liked the Hawthorne brothers, I didn't feel a strong affinity with any of the characters in the book. Everyone is nice enough but I wasn't obsessed with anyone. Furthermore, everyone is majorly traumatised in some way and could do some help. Avery seemed alright at first but I think she's headed the same way.

The writing style was simple in my view, but fast-paced, and the story was easy to follow. I thought that the mystery element was alright but it didn't grip me. I wasn't dying to figure it out.

I would definitely recommend the book if you're looking for a good YA read, as I did enjoy it. It just didn't get me obsessed.

After reading what felt like a book that took forever to read, "The Inheritance Games" was what I needed in order to get out of my reading slump. This book was plot and character-driven, got to the point when it needed to, and kept me on the edge of my seat whenever I was reading it. Around the last 20 chapters of the book, I got so addicted that I simply sat around for 3 hours reading all of them. I very much enjoyed this book and after not even being 2/3 done, I ordered the next 2 books in the series. The ending (which I will not spoil) left room for more of the story to be told in the second book and I absolutely loved it. In terms of characters, I will say Avery's personality can be a little annoying sometimes but her dynamic with the Hawthorne brothers was immaculate. Jennifer Lynn Barnes really knew how to bring her ideas to life in such a unique way. I have to say, my favourite Hawthorne brother is Jameson, but I may be a little bit biased as her relationship with him is highlighted throughout the story. Even the side characters were fully fleshed out like Thea who was made to be unlikeable, Rebecca who I know some people like but I personally found annoying, Oren who was written as if he were a real bodyguard, and more. I can't wait to get started with the second book now and see how it goes. If you're looking for an adventurous/mystery, puzzle-solving plot with twists and turns, this series was made for you.

P.S. Whoever said that this book was like "Knives Out" but in a novel was so true

This was so fun!! I was hooked from the first chapter and I’m already rushing for the sequel. It was cool to visualize the puzzles and imagine if I could work them out (I couldn’t). I also liked the characters and I’m so excited to read more about them!
