That being said, once it kicked up it picked up and I found myself speeding to the end, as with Ross' other work.
Moderate: Injury/Injury detail, Confinement, War, Death of parent, Death, Slavery, and Blood
Minor: Grief and Eating disorder

I did think the book did move fast; there is so much world building to explore in this book. I want to know more about the Commander, more about the history of the land, more about class hierarchy, and more about the movtivations of the villains. I have so many questions and it doesn’t seem like there will ever be any answers. I don’t want to air all of my grievances so I don’t spoil the book for anyone.
I did like the the story and relationships throughout the book. I was invested in the plot and how the sisters would grow as more of the story was revealed. I think the dramatic twists in the end made sense for the book. The loss wasn’t out of nowhere and you knew a loss was coming, nothing was really just for shock value. This book is definitely where my headspace is at, I just want to consume fantasy fiction books, so I do think my future books will consist mostly of this genre. For right now I am going to get through my TBR pile to justify buying more books.
I think this book is good for people who want a good flowing fiction book to escape into; nothing too difficult to read and keeps your attention.

LOVED:
- The sisterhood!!! I’m already a sucker for sibling relationships but you could see and feel the strength of love that Evadne and Halcyon had for each other!
- The plot twists!
- I LOVE a good map 👏🏼
LIKED:
- The relationship was the perfect amount for me 🥹 That ending 🥲
- The song/musical magic was so cool!
MEH:
- There we’re some plot lines that didn’t feel fully fleshed out.
- I would’ve LOVED to see more of the mythology.

Evadne + Halcyons sisterly love is just absolutely so precious and inspiring. their pure love for each other was so real and tangible. the sacrifice!!! AH!!! and their family’s dynamics were so sweet and loving.
DAMONNNNNN. he’s dreamy and i love him. Evadne and Damon’s chemistry was so subtle but so STRONG. absolutely in love with their love.
this book was just so wholesome, so innocent, but simultaneously so dark and so serious.
i recommend this book to LITERALLY ANYBODY.
it’s in my top 5 favorite books now. WOAH.
