Took me a while to get through this book because it lost it's grip on me fairly early on. 
This novel is full of egotistical characters and is told from the point of view of an old lady who reflects on her life, using the diary of an ex-lover to do so. One would think this makes it a love story, and yet her obsession with him annoyed me; clearly considering their affair more important than the man did.
