Can’t say I’m proud that I actually enjoyed this book. But ehm I did 😂

Blurb:
"Ready or not, rabbit, here I come"

Lex
The moment I open the car door and see her sweet face, I know I'm making a mistake. By offering to give me a ride, so is she. I spot the rabbit’s foot hanging from the rear-view mirror. It's not her lucky day.

I take her with me as I run from the law. Despite being a felon and a documented sociopath, I only mean for Selena to be a ride to the border. But somewhere along the way she stirs up feelings I've long thought myself incapable of.

She's my rabbit, my sweet little bunny, and I need to teach her how to run from me so I can catch her and show her what it's like to be devoured by the predator she should be afraid of.

Danger lurks in every corner, and the risk of getting caught grows by the day. What will I do once she takes me to my destination? Will I let her go or do something much worse? Can we find some way to stay together when the world wants to pull us apart?

→ It was difficult to reconcile my enjoyment of Hitched with the social work I’ve done with young women who have experienced trauma. If I keep reminding myself this is a work of fiction, I can enjoy it for the trigger-iffic, spicy as hell book that it is. If you can set aside your sensibility and suspend reality for a bit, you may find yourself considering stopping for a hitchhiker the next time you see one.

📌 What Stood Out
» Despite being wanted in the state of New York, Lex turned that car around as soon as he found out Selena’s husband had been beating her, to avenge her.

🚫 Contains so many triggers. Seriously, read the warnings before picking this up. Be informed.

If you’re new to dark romance buckle up because this trip is not for the faint of heart. It was the best of dark romance mixed with the vibe of the movie Joyride. I loved everything about it. The tension, the danger it’s so palpable it definitely gets your heart and everything else racing in the best way possible. Lex is the epitome of a twenty five foot tall red flag and did I mention one of my favorite colors is red? I love how Lex helps Selena to break herself out of her cage and Joe she humanizes him. I didn’t want their story to end!!!

I think I've found a personal limit for me with dark romance... the aggressive lack of consent that turned into some sort of begrudging acceptance, especially after coming from one extremely abusive relationship and clearly waltzing right into another, was both a bit too much for me and seemed like some sort of glorified Stockholm syndrome. Quote: "He loves when I listen when everything inside me says no" pretty much sums up most of the FMC's internal monologue and, yikes. In some books/contexts, this trope is fine for me, especially when it is more clearly consensual in general, but this one was really unsettling and felt much closer to r*pe almost the whole time. Generally, it was otherwise written fairly well, maybe lacking plot in a meaningful way (but also, it's clearly smut, you get PLENTY of that), and I can see how people would enjoy this book more based on their own personal thresholds, but it really just wasn't for me. While I didn't actively hate this book, it was a relief when it was finally over...

This isn’t for me. I liked the bunny/rabbit nickname he gave her but the lines of consent were not clear and it felt a little rapey. Okay maybe fully. I think I blocked it out? It just didn’t sit right with me and the MMC grossed me out.Like are we forgetting the giant creepy face tat. Well I tried. To no avail. Also what the fuck was his POV? One of the few times I hated a love interest’s thoughts. So creepy and the imagery of all those gross motels? Uckkkkk

I don’t know how I feel about this book. Just know Lex corrupted Selena in the worry way. Selena softened Lex as much as Lex could be. A lot of sex and sin! Lexington is literally a psychopath. Like no redeeming qualities.
