I thought the premise of this book was extremely interesting. It raises a lot of questions surrounding anonymity, societal expectations, the idea of ‘normaitivity’, purpose and happiness. Her peers’ obsession with stagnation and propriety was very telling

and I am so happy that she figured out in the end that she is completely fine living her life in a way that makes sense to her, not other people.

Keiko is so unusual and it was refreshing to be inside her mind. Seeing how analytically she thinks was a great insight into how some neurodiverse people process the world. Despite that it is never explicitly discussed, I feel that Convenience Store Woman could be considered authentic representation of neurodiversity and would recommend this book as a diverse narrative.

very similar to EARTHLINGS in that keiko finds herself not being able to be a part of society’s “factory” (but an entirely different tone) CONVENIENCE STORE WOMAN was a very relatable read as a neurodivergent person myself. i didn’t get much more out of it beyond that, but it was nice to feel seen.

literally have never had a piece of media make me go from 😊 to 😰 as fast as this book did the second shiraha was introduced . fr one of the most repulsive men i have ever read about (probably because he's s little too real) and i was honestly so happy the book ended the way it did. u go keiko, keep livin ur best convenience store life

Every book has it's autism moment. This books is 163 pages of autism moments. Usually I would love that, but there's a clear commentary here that isn't explored enough.

Really not sure about this one at aaaaall. It was a short read, only 163 pages, but I have to say the only reason I persued until the end is because I knew it would be over quickly

Really good short story that made me reflect on how to live life the right way. I really like that the main character is very different from the usual leads I've read about, but her experiences are still relatable.

I needed a quick read to pull me out of a reading slump and this was pretty fun! I really liked reading from Keiko’s perspective, but I hated the rants that Shiraha went on. In general, I found him to be a pain.

I was really glad she cut him off and returned to doing what she felt the best at the end!!

What. Did. I. Just. Read?

Strangely disturbing, strangely fascinating, a mix of intentional and unintentional commentary on society and conformity and life purpose. I really enjoyed a few points in this book, but found more it uncomfortable than I found it enjoyable. Recommended if you enjoy poking into random worldviews to see how they fit together.
