This book felt like a fever dream. But it was an interesting read. I enjoyed the underlying knowledge that all the girls had about the dangers of men. And how at the end of the day every women most suffer at the hands of men. And how that is just the way.

Fifth book of 2023. This book was a wild, fever dream, definitely one that I would like to re-experience to really grasps all layers of meaning.

You should read this book for the writing style only: it is poetic, deeply evocative, magical. High literary fiction.
You might not like this book if you need clear explanations, a clean-cut ending, and a straight plot line.

This is a story if emotions, of getting lost, confused, of experiencing traumatic events and unexplainable moments. A story of a young girl going to work in a remote, forgotten hotel, together with other eight young girls, and almost becoming one entity, one consciousness.
I have enjoyed the alternating use of "I", "We" and "One", and liked the hypnotic repetition of nouns and phrases. It's creepy at times without using jump scares, and there is a feeling of found family drenched with sadness.

In order to fully experience this story, I'd suggest you to allow yourself time for the powerful imagines to sink in. This is not a novel that should be read in one breath, but savour it and reflected it over.
Definitely a great one for book clubs and for re-reads, I'm very glad I decided to pick this up.
