Just finished this monster. It took quite a while but it was worth every day. I know some folks enjoy quick reads with snappy dialogue and a fast plot. Hell, that is me some of the time also.
But nothing is better to me than a long, character driven story with a plot that builds and builds into something that can wreak havoc on the entire planet. That’s just what i got from THE CEREMONIES.
I’ve had the book for years (hardcover & paperback) but haven’t been able to read it until it came out in e-book format. Hopefully his collection DARK GODS will be released soon in the same way.

Quite liked most of it. Had really creepy vibes and good intrigue. However the story was dragged out too much, and in contrast the end conclusion was over in a few pages, with no follow up on how it affected all the people we followed for hundreds of pages.

I loved The Events at Poroth Farm, the short story that Klein eventually turned into this book. So I was very excited to finally read it, but ended up extremely underwhelmed.
The book isn't bad, but it certainly feels excessively plodding. And fails to recapture the sense of voyeuristic dread and itrgue, or the surprise that the short story manages to display so mastefully.

It was pretty good and I really liked the ending. Maybe because it was a product of its time, when every book needed to be HUGE, but this book really needed to be trimmed down a lot.
