Swoon worthy! Loved all the rom com references but more than that, the real story was so, so wonderful!

I'd categorize this maybe of more of a Christian read just because of the plot. There aren't sermons or scripture but the idea of waiting till marriage is a central theme of the book. This is my 2nd book from this author and I will continue to read her titles. I listened to this through audio form and thought the narrator did very well with pacing, inflection and different characters.
This story took an honest look at attraction in dating relationships and having boundaries. There is miscommunications in this story though I think the miscommunications plausible and realistic not contrived. That isn't to say I didn't get frustrated with the H and h! I overall liked them and at times my opinions of them lowered because of different actions throughout. Though I encourage the reader to hang on if you do because it all comes together and makes sense. Overall these were two good people. I must say the h's parents ugh! with the problems they caused. I would say they were central to the reason of their problems. A good warning into why we shouldn't live under assumptions and have direct conversations with familial and dating relationships. I enjoyed the ending and was happy for their H.E.A

i didn’t like the writing style, especially the way it switched between first and third person. the characters were also weird.

I picked up this book looking for a light read. It wasn't quite as light and humorous as I expected--it deals with some pretty heavy topics--but I did find it enjoyable easy reading.

That being said, I wanted to shake some sense into the characters more than once (Cadie's parents really bugged me!). And a lot could be discussed about the theology (or lack thereof) of the characters as well. But if you're looking for an amusing book that will keep you reading, and if you like bringing movie references into every conversation, you might enjoy this book.

I'm not sure I'd seen more than one or two of the romantic movies referenced, but I still found the attempts to recreate the scenes humorous, even though I didn't always understand the context.

(I received a complimentary copy of this book from through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.)

The cover is super cute and I loved the description of this book. I loved Turner's first book and was excited to read this book and was so happy, that Net Galley gave me another chance to read it.

Will and Cadie have a really cute meet cute. He comes in for a job interview at her work, the same day it happens to be her birthday. He has black frosting on his teeth and they share a laugh. 4 years later, on their anniversary and her birthday, things start to fall apart.

It took me a long time to get into this book and to keep reading it. Some chapters leap at different points in their story. Will is made to be a huge jerk and Cadie the innocent victim. I didn't care for Cadie most of the time and with Will's idea to woo her and win her back, and when she wasn't even happy with that? I almost wanted to stop reading. But I kept reading because I loved the references to romantic comedies.

I felt the length was really long and could've been summed up a lot sooner. Cadie, supposedly is 34 years old but she acted like a young 20 something who had never dated before. Maybe she was so dramatic because they had sex (when they were supposedly waiting) but she was very immature. She felt so right and that Will was wrong. I don't think he deserved her.

There is no doubt that Bethany Turner knows her romantic comedies. Not only has she scattered them throughout her novel, she has created one of her very own. A true Rom-Com itself, Turner’s book is set in iconic NYC and comes complete with laughter, sweet moments, and characters you want to slap for wasting precious time by not communicating.

What places Wooing Cadie McCaffrey above the movies we watch is the Spirit-filled messages that come from even the most unlikely of characters. Though slow in maturation, these words of wisdom reveal the struggles that Cadie is facing, struggles she herself may not have realized. All throughout the story, Cadie is questioning whether Will loves her enough, loves her as much as she loves him. Was their relationship a waste of time because it was leading nowhere?

As the story continues to unfold, it’s evidenced that the relationship Cadie has with her parents, especially her mom, is a strenuous one. Will she ever be good enough for her mother?

At first, all I could think about was how I’d never felt the need to be perfect for my dad, but for my mom, I’d never really believed anything less was acceptable.
And if less than perfect wasn’t acceptable, I had certainly never been acceptable. (pg. 251)

What Cadie struggles with throughout the entire novel is the feeling of being loved and accepted. She makes assumptions that may or may not be true, but she doesn’t have the fortitude to find out. She chooses to believe what seems easiest for her, including a revelation her mother brings to the table near the book’s end.

In Cadie’s struggle against a sin she had committed, her mother reveals a hidden truth that had been hiding inside Cadie even after her confession to God:

“You asked for forgiveness and you got it. That’s the end of the sentence. It’s just not the end of the story, and I think that’s where you’re struggling. God erased it. It’s gone. Can you say the same?” (pg. 253)

Wooing Cadie McCaffrey goes beyond the typical Rom-Com that many of us are so used to. It delves into the struggles that many may face instead of brushing them off and moving on. It’s a story of love, revelation, and self-acceptance, and I would recommend it to anyone who could use a light, messy comedy with a deeper message.

Cadie is unabashedly uninterested in sports despite being surrounded by the athletically inclined on a daily basis. I admire this trait, Cadie is comfortable being herself, even when she has different interests and skills than those around her.

Will is a delightful underdog hero! He’s a bit nerdy and a low-key mister steady. Will puts forth a herculean effort to do things right including dragging his man’s man buddies along for the ride (which is hilariously entertaining).

His frustration is as palpable as Cadie’s desperation as they engage in miscommunication and heartwrenching disappointment. Cadie and Will are believers and (like the rest of us) they occasionally mess up and learn to move on.

I literally could NOT put this book down until I read every page. Sleep, food, these things are trivial when engrossed in a Bethany Turner novel. Priorities, people. Priorities. This book will be joining the author’s debut among my all-time favorites and I enthusiastically recommend it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.
