“You took away my worth, my privacy, my energy, my time, my safety, my intimacy, my confidence, my own voice. Until today.”
"And finally, to girls everywhere, I am with you. On nights when you feel alone, I am with you. When people doubt you or dismiss you, I am with you. I fought every day for you. So never stop fighting. As the author Anne Lamont once wrote, 'Lighthouses don't go running all over an island looking for boats to save; they just stand there shining.' Although I can't save every boat, I hope that by speaking today, you absorbed a small amount of light, a small knowing that you can't be silenced, a small satisfaction that justice was served, a small assurance that we are getting somewhere, and a big, big knowing that you are important, unquestionably, that you are untouchable, you are beautiful, you are to be valued, respected, undeniably, every minute of every day, you are powerful and nobody can take that away from you. To girls everywhere, I am with you."

“I did not come into existence when he harmed me. ‘She found her voice!’ I had a voice, he stripped it, left me groping around blind for a bit, but I always had it. I just used it like I never had to use it before. I do not owe him my success, my becoming, he did not create me. The only credit Brock can take is for assaulting me, and he could never even admit to that.”
Best memoir I’ve ever read. Period.
The story itself is gut wrenching and powerful, one that lit a fire that simply can’t be put out. This book is a brave, bold, and beautifully written account of the shameful ways this country addresses victims of sexual assault. Chanel Miller demands a new precedent.

Chanel's voice is vivid and strong. Her experience is heartbreaking, but she did not let it destroy her. Instead, she fought for herself and all future victims.
Perhaps if everyone read this book, real justice could occur, and victims can be helped rather than shamed.

Very eye opening and equally infuriating. First hand account of a victim of sexual assault and all that goes into the investigation, trial, and sentencing. Even with access to services, witnesses, and a “cooperative” victim, Chanel still received little justice in her experience. She’s very honest and insightful throughout the whole book.

“Victims are also students, teachers, parents, who can't give up work or education. The average adult can barely find time to renew their license at the DMV. It is not reasonable to casually demand that victims put aside their lives to spend more time pursuing something they never asked for in the first place.”
An incredible memoir. Everyone needs to read this book. I’ll lend you my copy. Read. This. Book.

This is hands down the most powerful memoir that I have ever read.
No longer will Chanel Miller be known as 'Emily Doe' or Brock Turner's victim. Instead, by revealing her identity and recounting her heartbreaking story, she has given a voice to countless survivors of sexual assault. This is a tough and emotional book to read, but the vulnerability, anger, and resilience behind the message adds so much depth that defines what it really means to be a victim.

An incredibly vulnerable and heart wrenching read. Chanel’s story was one of the first I had ever heard of. Although I was young, I still remember feeling gutted by the outcome.
Know My Name is an incredibly detailed and informative read from Miller’s own perspective. Miller takes the reader through her highest highs and lowest lows of her life while never shying away from her truth. I loved the imagery in her writing as well as her witty humor sprinkled throughout the book. Although not necessary, it was appreciated with reading such a dark subject.
I recommend this book to everyone regardless of gender, I truly think this is a MUST read. There is so much knowledge to be gained from Chanel’s story.

What a stunning, heartbreaking account of Chanel Miller’s experience as a sexual assault survivor. It’s impeccably recounted and the fact that she grew up one town north of me made it all that more real. Strongly recommend this book to all.
