Teacher of the year showed me how much I miss working with children. My heart absolutely soared watching Marvin teach. I loved hearing all of the off the wall things the kiddos said and watching them learn. Marvie truly goes above and beyond for his classroom.
The relationship between Marvin and his mother is one I know well. Constantly dreading phone calls, never wanting to be around them, the resentment eating uo your heart and mind, the residual anxiety concerning alcohol. Especially with not wanting to drink yourself. This aspect of the story definitely gave me a new perspective though. Which I'm so grateful for.
I loved his relationship with Olan. They're so sweet together and balance eachother well.
This book was such a true representation of what it's like to work in education. I loved the humor and sweet moments throughout so much. And all of the raw ones too. Teacher of the Year has my whole heart. I can't wait to continue the series.

Personally, I could’ve seen Olan being demisexual based on how he talked about his previous relationship but that’s more just my lens as an ace woman. I know not everyone thinks about that, I just thought it would’ve been nice to see.
Also Jill was a great friend and the kids in this—and Illona obviously—were adorable🥰 I think it did a good balance with humor and more serious topics. I’m definitely going to continue with the series to see what happens next.
EDIT: I can’t believe I forgot to mention this in my original review but I loved the anxiety representation with Marvin and how he handles his anxiousness as an anxious music lover myself😅

But I cannot really connect with any of the characters. Love flawed characters now and forever, but the MC, Marvin, is a little bit hard for me to like. He is not detestable, I do find him lovely to a certain extent, but sometimes he just makes me go 🙄🙄. I am more critical of male characters, so there is that.
The ML also has little to no personality, other than being a rich hot nerdy good dad. His only “flaw” seems to be that he is a recovering alcoholic which I don’t think is fair to be considered as a flaw.
The romance progresses pretty quickly, but in a way that does not make care about their relationship. Plot is pretty boring, nothing noteworthy happen, but the conflict is okay enough. I like that the conflicts centres around Marvin’s flaw, and how it eventually helps him to progress and develop as a person.
TLDR: this book is not for me, but if you like sweet rom-com with steamy scene and single dad/kid’s teacher dynamic, you may enjoy this one.
