The Honey-Don't List, by Christina Lauren

This was my first book I read by Christina Lauren. It was an ok read, but I was confused throughout the book. An event happened and they had a police log about it and then the chapters would go back in time.

This book was told from duel point of view which I really like. I like knowing what both characters are thinking.

Carey is a personal assistant to Melissa Tripp and James gets hired as one for Rusty Tripp. Even though he is an engineer. He had some stuff happen at his old job so he needs to stick this one out to rebuild his resume. Carey needs the job for insurance and she has been with them since she was 16 and doesn’t know what she would do on her own.

Melissa and Rusty's marriage is falling apart and they are going on a book tour for their new book and James and Carey have to go to babysit them and make sure they act like the loving couple everyone sees them as.

Feelings start to come between James and Carey but can they make it work with their jobs?

I liked this book and will read more by this author.

This was kinda a tough read. the first half of the book is a solid two because the relationship between carey and james seems to appear out of no where other than the fact that it’s a romance book. there was no slow build just a chapter where he starts to notice her. the latter half of the book is much better and sweeter. i just wish that the development had been more smooth.

I was really intrigued by the premise of the book but somehow the book was lost in translation of a home improvement show and an want to be love story. While the love and connection scenes were gold stars, I think that the build up to the romance (showmance?) was lacking. Additionally, the ending (predicted) but also fell flat for me. If you’re already a Christina Lauren fan, then it’s worth reading but unlikely to recommend from her collection.

This was a cute story! It’s been on my tbr pile for a while and I finally took the plunge and I’m glad I did! This story was written in a way that makes it impossible not to feel like you’re a part of this world, helping the Tripps “do” all the things. I felt so much for Carey. I hated watching her get taken advantage of, but I also understood her point of view and how she could’ve let it go on for a long time. I hated one of James’ choices but otherwise I loved him. I even have a soft spot for Rusty even though he made several choices I didn’t love. Melly was just too much. I can’t imagine having had to deal with that all the time lol. Overall, this book was a good, quick read to me! The writing was great and the storyline was original. I feel like there could’ve been a little more depth into Carey and James but you only get so much time and so much of the focus needed to be on Melly and Rusty to really understand the story. I’ll definitely be picking up another story from these authors soon!

I really didn't like this. I honestly want to dock it another star just for irritating me but objectively it's not a 1 star book. Honestly, it's probably objectively a 3 star book but after the halfway mark it went from a perfectly average romcom to something I just wanted to get over with because I was annoyed. Flat characters, totally not believable love story... Just not great

Carey is an underappreciated employee of the Tripps, who are HGTV royalty. She has worked for them since she was 16 and sees them as family. James, accepted a job with the Tripps because it was all he could get after his last workplace was investigated by the FBI. The Tripps are a nightmare to work for; behind their perfect image is a couple who fight constantly and hate each other.
SpoilerAfter Rusty was caught cheating on Millie, Carey and James were forced to babysit them on their book tour. They both want to quit, but Carey needs the insurance and James has been promised a big promotion. On this tour James and Carey develop a relationship. All goes to hell when the Tripps have a fight in public and the 4 of them are forced to go to a cabin while they wait for the premiere of the Tripps new Netflix show and the second season renewal. As expected, things fall apart fast when they are at the cabin.

This was a cute book that had a few funny moments. I liked the dual POV.  I hated the Tripps. They were selfish and entitled jerks. I really thought the police investigation was headed in a very different direction. The big "event" that leads to a police investigation was a bit lackluster.
