Ugh, so many of my least favorite things in one place: mates, forced bonds, and somehow believing there's such a thing as a bloodless rebellion. There isn't and, if you think there is, then you shouldn't have signed up to be the head of one.

I really wanted to love this book, but it felt like every three pages there was a plot twist or a scene change or a new character who you’ll never see again etc etc. The characters are fine, but I think if you’re going to make young/immature main characters then there should be more focus on their growth and development than what happened in this book. The world building was awesome, I liked seeing a magical world through this lens, but the plot and the characters didn’t do it for me

The bones of the story is decent typical YA fantasy and the writing was descriptive and nice to read but boy did the romance fail miserably with the terrible pacing.

Demi came across quite cruel with PDAs in front of each of the boys that are supposedly in love with her and although the small twists did bring in a good story, the repetitive dialogue really dragged.

Beautifully written, but I had a hard time following the story.

This reads like a YA fantasy, it has predictable plot points and the character voices are young. Although it has been published as adult no idea why. I still enjoyed reading it. I feel like the magic system is interesting, the world is great although both parts could have been more detailed. It feels like everything is very black or white in their decisions or their betrayals there is no room for gray which is disappointing as having some morally grey moments could have really elevated this. I liked the characters but feel they could have been developed more, Demi our MC is in a love triangle and she openly toys with both of them, which is pretty crappy but made her more interesting and I would have loved to see more of that side of her. I think it was too easy to predict what was gonna happen but if you just ignore that its a good read.

I like it better as audio.
