Was a bit strange and felt pretentious. Probably a generation or two too late to appreciate this

This is supposed to be Hemingway’s best work but for me, a big no. Told from Jake Barnes’ perspective we follow a group of privileged kind-of friends who spend their time drunk and complaining. Many are feeling the after effects of The Great War but not are very likable.

I will give Hemingway this - his descriptions of Pamplona and the bull fighting are vivid in their description and quite brutal. I also enjoyed the time in Paris and the lovely atmospheric feel of the setting. But the dissatisfaction and angst of the characters make for a rather sad story.
