If you're looking for a lighthearted romance this isn't it. The romance definitely was not the primary aspect of this book but I still enjoyed it! Definitely should have some tw notated at the start because it does discuss some heavy topics.

“Often father and daughter look down on mother together. They exchange meaningful glances when she misses a point. They agree that she is not bright as they are, cannot reason as they do. This collusion does not save the daughter from the mother’s fate.”

this book was obviously a romance but i cared more about the relationship between mother and daughter. i liked this retelling a lot.

This was a big improvement on the first in this series, which I did enjoy. It was a little hornier and the relationship between Rico and Ashna was better developed. It also  dealt with some pretty serious topics in a way that felt respectful but also not too heavy. Still, some people may want a content warning.

Slow start. Unlike the first book of the series, there are a lot of errors that made the slow beginning hard to get through. But once it gets going, it's a great story. I love Bram as a character and how his actions influenced so many characters.

I didn't think it was possible, but I actually enjoyed Recipes for Persuasion more than the first book in the series!
After meeting Ashna in Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors, I was so excited to read her story. Her responsibility for her Father's restaurant, her relationship with her mother, and the rekindling of her love for Rico made for a compelling story. What I love about this series is that Sonali Dev doesn't try to match the Austen novels beat for beat, but rather patterns the characters hurts and motivations after the classic stories.
