Nothing new, nothing revolutionary. Murakami’s depiction of women proves to be incredibly one dimensional and this book certainly fails the Bechdel test. Nakata, the older protagonist, should have been the primary character and the novel would have benefited from losing its titular character, Kafka.

It's like fine wine.
Everyone won't like it.
You will have to read some other stuff, other classic books, a taste of magic realism and all that before you get here.
The ending is criticised by many but once you start reading it you will understand the flow, how the story is and by the time you reach the end you will understand why it ends like that even though you might not agree to the ending. Hell, you might not like the whole story but the time won't surely be wasted.
I highly recommend it to one and all.

Like most of Murakami’s novels, this is a story about diving into one’s subconscious. Fighting  the darkness inside.  About fate, and responsibility, and time.

Obviously the incest sections are beyond disturbing. I vacillate between understanding the “point” of these weird encounters and just really hating it and thinking it’s extraneous. Miss Saeki I can kind of understand but Sakura’s dream scene is beyond my comprehension

A trippy combo of Catcher in the Rye and Oedipus Rex. Slow moving at times. Not sure what the takeaway was supposed to be.
