I can't say anything but good things about this series. This book was great in my opinion despite the lackluster ending. I also feel in my heart of hearts, Vaelin deserved to have his love at the end and since that didn't happen, it broke my heart. It doesn't take away from my rating of the book. This whole series was splendid.

This had so much potential. Blood Song was a masterpiece; Tower Lord was enjoyable as well, but Queen of Fire was disappointing on almost every level.
When Vaelin al Sorna is in your book and the most interesting character is Weaver, there is something seriously wrong.
I loved Blood Song because I loved the characters:
Nortah, who grew from a bully to a thoughtful and likeable young man.
Caenis, one of the best of the Order,a helpful friend.
Sherin, compassionate and loving.
Lyrna, who is manipulative and very interesting.
Frentis, who is lovable and competent.
and Vaelin, one of the most bad ass characters ever to grace the pages of a novel.
In Tower Lord, the POVs didn't really bother me, and Reva was a welcome addition to the cast.
In Queen of Fire, all of that pretty much goes to hell.
Nortah and Caenis become completely one-dimensional characters.
Sherin NEVER SHOWS UP AGAIN
Lyrna is needlessly mean, and spends the entire novel bestowing titles on anyone who farts in her general direction.
Frentis was okay, but that was only because Ryan actually gave him something to do.
Reva was just kind of boring.
And worst of all, Vaelin al Sorna is relegated to a boring guy who spends the entire book hundreds of miles away from the plot. He loses all semblance of characterization and skill, and is some how made completely one dimensional.

There are characters in this book that I forget who they from chapter to chapter. I have read GOT and LOTR and have no problem with large casts of characters, but in QOF they seem to all be the same person.
The conclusion was incredibly weak. The motivations of the Ally make zero sense, and while his backstory is interesting, it is also kind of dumb. Nothing that happened to him would make any rational person want to burn down the world. Also Elverah is turned into a stupid whiny brat.

Now that I've ranted a bit, this book did have some redeeming qualities. Weaver's arc is excellent, and he was far and away my favorite character in the book. I enjoyed the beginning and some of Frentis's parts, but the rest was either boring or frustratingly dumb. Reva almost drowned, and as soon as she opens her eyes has enough strength to kill ten people? Really?

Overall, most of my complaining here stems from a place of extreme disappointment. Nearly every loose end was left hanging, and those that were wrapped up were done so poorly. I expected so much more.

just like tower lord (book 2 of the series) i enjoyed the story but got confused from time to time of who was with who and where they were because of the amount of names/characters in the book.
