“there is a difference between changing yourself for someone to love you, and growing into a better person”
The vibes:
- Brother’s Best Friend
- Childhood Friends
- Illicit Affairs by Taylor Swift
My Thoughts:
It’s so hard to review this one because I feel conflicted on it. I loved it but I also have some issues with the characters here.
I was so invested in Oliver and Elizabeth. I was rooting for them for about half of the book. But I could only take so much rejection from Oliver before I moved on. I really wanted Elizabeth to marry Lord Hastings and make it work with him. I felt so bad for the guy, and I felt convinced that he and Elizabeth could have had a book 3 that detailed their marriage and their story of falling in love. I could see it all in my head. But no. Oliver just had to be the end game- and I don’t know that I supported it at the end of the day. Elizabeth had to push so dang hard to make it happen, and I just wanted more from Oliver. His past traumas totally validate a lot of his behaviors for me- so I didn’t hate him at all. I just wanted Elizabeth to move on for real after the many, many rejections from Oliver.
Four stars for the enjoyability in the read. I was on the edge of my seat- could not put it down. I was low key convinced Oliver had lost her forever and my jaw was to the ground.

Do yourself a favor and read this book! It took me 2 days and I wish I could have read it faster! Wait I take that back first read to Con a Gentleman (book 1) then this. They are both amazing! Elizabeth and Oliver’s story is jam packed full of every emotion and Sarah Adams has such a way with her words that you feel what they feel and it is just soo good! And what’s even better is it’s a clean regency romance with well developed relationships not just superficial “love” - 5 Stars I would recommend this to anyone!

A lot of back and forth I wish it cut to the chase a bit quicker and then spoke about the journey of their lives together
