It’s nice to see a story about a non-binary character that isn’t about coming out or dealing with any type of hate. The focus of the book is much more about finding found family. The voice of the character skewed a bit younger than how old they we’re though and the plot seemed a bit rushed at times.

I love Alex Gino but this book was a little heavy handed.

I think it's absolutely stupid to think an adult can't be friends with kids and that mentorship/family (found or otherwise) necessarily precludes friendship as a descriptor of a relationship. Also why didn't the adults in this validate the children in their feelings of experiencing bigotry instead of being like. Well too bad.
