A wealthy woman is poisoned in her own home, and everyone in the household is suspect, from her new husband to her two grown sons to her daughter-in-law or even a local doctor. Poirot observes and makes his inquiries and uncovers the convoluted truth.

This is Christie's first novel and Poirot's first mystery, and if you've ever seen a PBS mystery special, it is exactly what you would expect it to be. Quite enjoyable if you enjoy this style of mystery.

This audio adaptation is excellent, with an absolute perfect performance by Peter Dinkledge as Poirot. The only drawback to the audio adaptation is the dinner scenes, where the chewing noises were a bit too much. If you suffer from misophonoia, you may want to skip forward during that scene.

It was so interesting reading her first book! I am now even more convinced that David Suchet IS the perfect Poirot!!

“The Mysterious Affair at Styles”, by Agatha Christie (Poirot’s first book) - A Hercule Poirot Mystery: The Official Authorized Edition - with an introduction by John Curran

4 brilliant stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a re-read for me, but first time in English (instead of Portuguese).

And I simultaneously read it while listening to the audiobook narrated by Jeff Woodman, who did a formidable job (although the French accent could have been better).

This book, Dame Christie’s first novel, was first published in 1920, so keep that in mind if you are going to read it for the first time.

I found the storyline and its development quite ingenious and somewhat fascinating.

I read this book during my teens and I only had a recollection of the story because of the adaptation for the TV, which I have watched several times.

There are lots of free editions, but for Christie’s books I only trust one publisher, Harper Collins.

ebook (Kobo): 288 pages (default), 64k words

Audiobook narrated by Jeff Woodman: 7 hours (unabridged) at normal speed (the narration is superb at normal speed).
