3 ⭐️ for me. I really wanted to love this book. I feel like it started off strong and I was very intrigued. Somewhere in the middle it lost my interest. I started to get confused with which characters which. It picked back up towards the last bit, but the ending had me like

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is my first 5-star book of the year. What an incredible story of four women whose stories are eternally intertwined. I especially love that it is the Black women in the book who have power.
There is a bit of fantasy and magic woven throughout, which I loved. This gave the book a slight magical realism feel, but it also emphasized the idea that there are forces in this universe that we simply don’t understand.
I truly couldn’t put this book down. I absolutely loved the story and the characters. I can’t wait to read more from Rita Wood.

Dreadful Ending
This was a hard read. The story bounces from point of view numerous times. This usually isn't a problem for me but in this book the story was never seamless. It jumped all over the place. Some parts seemed unnecessary and too detailed and then others seemed unnecessary and not detailed enough. It took me too long to read only to be let down by a terrible ending with no answers. ***spoiler alert*** Josiah is never explained although the author presses his importance.

I liked the themes of working together and that people can change for the better. There was "magic" in this book which isn't my cup of tea but it was a good story.
