I love the cover design, the gold/brown roots entwined with the title which isn’t quite whole; fitting with the story. It’s been an interesting read more in the sense it is very peculiar yet gripping. There is a disturbing factor to it in a way that I can’t say I’ve read anything quite like it before. It wasn’t quite full horror due to the magical twist. Graphic medical imagery with a fairytale spin. Broaching topics of relationships, desire, fear both in Ada’s perspective being the main story timeline along with a few future snippets about Ada from those who have met or heard of Ada in her present. Although I found this a peculiar book, I also didn’t want to put it down. Yet I found that there were some things I didn’t quite understand. A book that just doesn’t feel right to purchase to keep on my shelves but one that I would pick up again to see if what I have read was real.

A delightfully weird and quick read! I enjoyed this though it definitely won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. If you like a spooky story with detailed imagery and are okay with ambiguous endings then you’ll like this!

A great premise sadly marred by the presence of surprise incest, focused on boring interpersonal relations rather than the actually interesting magical components...

incest is a cheap gimmick and also disgusting and i'm just tired of seeing authors try to write interesting or "literary" stuff and they all throw a little incest in. Be more creative. jesus.

This was so confusing. The premise was so interesting, Ada and her father are healers, but they aren't human. They're something perpetual and ageless and live on enchanted grounds. But, there were so many unanswered questions and I constantly felt like I was missing something?
