this book,,,, a flop lol. It somehow managed to be both fast paced and slow paced, everything happened so quickly but it DRAGGED. The author had beautiful writing at times, really good descriptions of nature, but prettiness doesn't matter when it serves no purpose, drags, and just makes things more convoluted. I was so bored with this book. The transitions from perspective to perspective were so confusing for no reason. The author needs help organizing their thoughts - this book could have been much better with some editing. People looking for an edgy slasher will be lost in the wordiness. As for the slasher element - this book, despite being about child death lmao, was nowhere near the most shocking/horrific/gross/tense thing Ive ever read, because it was 1. ridiculous and 2. had no stakes. We are thrown straight into the plot without time to care about the characters and whats going on, or establish any suspense. This book can't even be marked as super edgy or horrific for dealing with the death of children, because they didnt FEEL like children. They felt like pretentious middle aged poets lmao. No kid talks or thinks like that. I finished this book because I heard the end was shocking and terrifying but i was bored halfway through the description of Enzo being eaten alive. It was kind of goofy. Earlier in the book, a kid runs into a tree branch (at child speed) and breaks his legs, gets his face ripped off, dislocates his shoulder and instantly dies, and Enzo gets his legs, face, arm, etc slowly eaten by a wild animal and lives through it???? ok lol. this book was dumb and a drag. i gave it a 1.75 because the writing could have been very nice, if the author wasn't so flowery and long-winded. This book isnt even worth reading to push the limits of what you can stomach on a horror perspective - the grossest part of this book was the description of the woman shitting in the very beginning.

I liked the beginning and it set up. However Mid way through and to the end was quite boring. Its weird to call a book about murderous killing children boring, but here We are. I did like the breaking of the fourth wall and the author reminding me that everyone in this book are children.
