It took a while to get into the style of this book but once I did I enjoyed it. Although a traditional format would have been more gripping and fast paced I think it ultimately would have been more forgettable. I appreciate what the author was trying to do with the format, it was effective and something I've not seen before in a work of fiction.

formatted like a documentary, Daisy Jones & The Six follows this band through their rise to stardom and subsequent break up. The characters are incredibly realistic and their emotions and behaviours are very real, all of them are unreliable narrators so it’s funny when you read something from one person and then it’s told differently from another. I don’t have any personals experience with addiction but i think that topic was handled with tact.

If I could recommend one thing for this book, it's to read it as an audiobook. You will not get the full grasp of everything without it.

I found the narrative not centring Daisy towards the end a lil disappointing but the perspective of a young artist beautiful.
Spoiler the twist at the end made it feel like the plot of how I met your mother like this guy was a jerk why do we care again? But at the same time it brought tears to my eyes and made me want to reread it so unconvlusive feelings< /spoiler>

Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne are very fun rock star protagonists to spend some time with. They are difficult, addicts, and they deeply care about the music when inspiration strikes. It’s impressive that Jankins Reid can put you in their shoes when they are the biggest rock stars in the world and help you understand that very particular thrill. I didn’t really need the meta element at the end of the book and I forgot that the plot was supposed to be centered around the breakup of the band for most of it. I got used to the interview style of the book quicker than I thought I would, and it was an interesting way to achieve multiple first person past tense perspectives for the duration of the novel
