The Backbone of the World veers in directions wholly unexpected and freakishly satisfying. Stephen Graham Jones is one of my favorite authors. His way with words, the meandering sentences and unique perspectives, is unmatched. I loved these characters and the setting. I loved the conflict and the choices being made. I loved the ending. I know this is a story that won't work for everyone, but damn did I enjoy it.

Fun and fast read. Survival meets ecofiction meets cosmic horror. A quite peculiar take on prairie dogs.

You think it's going to be animal cruelty but it's not, stick with it, be brave.

This short story I thought was going to go one way but ended up going a completely different way. I really liked the storytelling in this one.
