In this Midnight Breed novel, we start off where the last book ended. Brock and the other warriors are in Alaska and have just found Jenna after she's been attacked by the Ancient. After bringing her back to the compound for medical care, they find some really interesting and disturbing things that are still happening to her. Until they understand what's going on, they keep her there with them. Lucan gives Brock the task of keeping an eye on her and protecting her when she ventures out. Neither of them expect the feelings that begin to brew between them.
I thought this book was okay. I liked both Brock and Jenna alright, but at the same time their characters and their romance in general was pretty staid to me. I just wasn't feeling the love as much between them as I have in some of the past books from this series. I could tell they liked each other, but it wasn't really mind blowing or anything -- just meh.
The other thing I found greatly lacking in this installment was the action. Although there was some, I found the past books to be a lot more filled with action and more unexpected things to happen. This one I found some of the situations they got themselves into to be quite obvious and really easy to see coming from a mile away. So that was a bit disappointing as well. I also found the story to be a bit lacking. There wasn't too much of a plot, just things that seemed to be happening along the way. Along the same lines, while the whole thing happening to Jenna was quite interesting and very different from the previous books, I wanted to understand it better and the story didn't get into it as much as I was hoping. Without spoiling anything, let's just say I hope that we hear more about that in the upcoming books.
Good things are that I really like that the Breemates are still very much involved in genuinely helping the warriors in their missions. While I still think they make some stupid choices and have poor judgment on occasion, I find this to be very different from other paranormal romances like this -- particularly Black Dagger Brotherhood -- where the females end up pushed into the background and we never hear from them after their book. I really like that about this series. I also liked Brock. I thought he was very sweet and seemed to be very genuine in his actions. But, as I said before, I wasn't really feeling the heat between him and Jenna too much.
Overall, a good book, but I didn't like it as much as some of the previous books in the series. I am still really looking forward to Hunter's book, and also a new character we get in this book who I'm pretty sure will stay on with the warriors. But most of all, I want Chase's book! Shouldn't he be getting a book soon? He deserves his HEA after all he's been through.

So the great book slump of 2015 continues...
I haven't read any of the previous books in this series but on the whole it was quite easy to get into. I liked the chemistry between Brock and Jenna but that was about it. I found the writing style far too clunky and felt as though I were being spoon fed information.

I really enjoyed this one. though I'm quite curious on what's happening to jema? will we see more of what she is turning into in future books? I really hope so.

Sadly - the female main character never made me even interested in her, her issues, or her situation. Her guy? nada as well. Done deal for me. Lara Adrian is a good writer as I've said in my last review. However something happened in perhaps how quickly these were being released perhaps? The strong males turned to boring, whiney, weak guys. I will miss the good parts of this series.

This was a really good book. This is the story of Jenna and Brock. The book starts with the ancient from the previous book asking Jenna if she wants to live or die. She was debating killing herself when the ancient had found her and fed from her to the point of near death. He then made her chose if she would like to live or die. She chose to live and he put something into the base of her skull. Whatever this something is, it has given her some strange abilities, so the Order takes her back to the compound.
I liked the dynamic between Brock and Jenna. She is human and not a breed made, which is what we have seen in all of the previous books, so to me, this story seemed a bit of a re-boot for the series. The author wasn’t following the same set of rules for the story format, which is good for me. I never really liked it when all the books in a series tend to follow the same pattern, which is why I tend to like books with more than just romance in them, like this series. I love how Jenna gets pulled into the Order and offers her help (she is ex-police) and the story progresses for the hunt for Dragos.

TAKEN BY MIDNIGHT takes things in a different direction because Jenna is not a Breedmate but she's also no longer completely human after her attack. I felt so much for Jenna and her life experiences. She's had the worst happen to her when she lost her husband and child and she's struggled to move on from that loss. When she gets brought under the protection of the Order she finds a new purpose in life and begins to connect with other people again. But both Jenna and Brock are reluctant to risk their hearts so things are bumpy as they find themselves in close quarters with each other. I really liked Jenna and Brock and enjoyed them together, but I do feel like Brock felt a bit flat as a character. He's so calm and collected that he's almost forgettable compared to the other Breed warriors we've met.
One of my favorite parts in TAKEN BY MIDNIGHT was seeing how the women of the Order have begun helping out and taking on their own mission. They don't just sit idly by and look pretty; they're investigating the missing Breedmates, tracking down leads, and even fighting when necessary. They've also brought a lightness and a heart to the Order and given the Warriors something to truly fight for.

Dragos the nasty Breed who is trying to create a super race of Breeds is up to more evilness in this book. He kills and plots against The Order (the good Breeds) but has many victories denied to him by the quick thinking Order and their mates.
Jenna an ex cop living in Alaska to hide from the horrors of her past is found alive after being tortured by an Ancient that escaped from Dragos. He offers her a choice, one that changes everything. She is found by Brock a breed male of the order. He is placed in charge of her and takes it very seriously. Both are damaged by past loses and try to fight the strong attraction they feel.
The Breed Mates welcome Jenna into their fold, she jumps right into their investigation and search fro the missing breed mates taken by Dragos years ago. Together them slip through the clues and possibly find the path that leads them to the women and their freedom.
The romance between Brock and Jenna is realistic and sweet. They are two wonderful characters that you just can't help but to wish well for them.
I enjoyed the story, it had just the right mix of story/mystery/ romance.

What a wonderful unique addition to the Midnight Breed. In past books, the members fell for breed mates. Hunky Brock has watched his friends fall hard and he swears he won't fall like they did. I can honestly say he doesn't fall for a Breed Mate. He falls for Jenna, a human, or is she.
