Morality, and all its complexity, is at the center of this book, but Landay never preaches. It is a compulsively readable book. I really did not know what to expect in the oncoming pages, making this book a respite of sorts in the wide world of murder in fiction. It’s not a “whodunit,” but I was invested in finding out how Landay’s story would play out.

A very interesting plot. It was intriguing  to follow the Dad’s perspective and see his determination to prove his sons innocence. Then it was phenomenal to watch <spoiler ish> the Mom slowly lose faith in her son and watch their relationship unravel <spoiler ish>. Honestly Jacob and the Dad were both unlikable character who had their flaws. Unlike normal books with similar plots, it was honestly hard to root for Jacob which I think further added to the story. It was the first time I honestly did not cheer for the morally grey character and his fight to innocence because I truly thought he was guilty. It begins to get a tad slow near the middle but then significantly picks up pace in the third act. The last hundred or more pages are wild and truly unbelievable. Very upset they changed the ending in the TV show, so as usual I recommend the book over the show.
