Firefight takes us from Newcago to Babilar, the flooded island formerly known as Manhattan. With rich world building, interesting characters, and a complex plan, Sanderson took what he started in Steelheart and improved upon it in the second installment of The Reckoners trilogy.

I have to say, I was really worried when two of my favorite characters were left behind at the beginning of this book. However, with how everything turned out at the end I’m very glad that this book was set up in the way that it was. It clearly built upon ideas set up at the end of book one, and also set up our big bad for the final installment.

With that said, I still need to complain about the romance. This book was MUCH better than Steelheart, but it still felt rushed and incomplete. I don’t fully believe the depth of feeling that the characters claim to have.

Firefight was definitely a step up from Steelheart, and I look forward to seeing how the series ends in Calamity. 4 stars.

If you liked the first Reckoners book, don’t wait—get this one ASAP. There are some new cast members here, and while I missed the absent characters the new ones were fun and just as loveable. This story is so interesting and it was great to learn more about Epics and this world, picking up right where Steelheart left off.
