First of all, this cover is GORGEOUS. We need to get that out of the way.

I really, really enjoyed this book. I loved the complexity of the different types of relationships that were portrayed. It made the characters more real and likeable. (Except Nick. Fuck him.) The betrayal mentioned in the synopsis came a little slow for my liking, but once it dropped it stunned me! So well-written, so emotional. I highly recommend!

Emma and Zadie are the best of friends and they have been best friends for years, during medical school and into their adult careers in medicine. During medical school they endure a traumatic loss, but there are secrets about this loss that only Emma knows. When old secrets find a way to expose Emma, Emma and Zadie’s friendship feels the effects.

This novel about friendship was an enjoyable read. Written by a (former?) emergency medicine doctor, Dr. Martin does a great job of writing the medical jargon in a way that is approachable to the non-doctor reader. Her characters are well-developed. Her storyline had great twists to hide the above mentioned secrets until the end. This was an overall enjoyable book
