Not a bad thriller with a priest turned activist/PI. I found the rather large staff of priests at the parish to be a little incredulous, given the priest shortage these days. The whole migrant worker/slavery racket was well done; good for people to know this goes on, and the scheme to accomplish it was interesting.

Disturbing look at modern slavery

I read this book in three days which is a quick pace for me. The unlikely hero is a quiet rogue turned priest. Through his eyes the reader gets a glimpse of an all too real underworld where human flesh and slave labor are at the heart of a fortune 500 company's mechanisms. I believe the story fell mildly short in that things happened a little too fast and so much blew wide open too quickly. However, it was a page turner and I would recommend without hesitation.

Almost 4 star. I did like the plot it was well thought out and fast paced.  Some of the characters were alittle flat and there were a few loose ends that didn't get wrapped up. Otherwise I liked it.

I received this book as part of the Amazon First Reads program. I was pleasantly surprised. It had a good plot, was well edited and contained likeable characters. I can't wait to see what the second book in the series brings us.

*Received an ARC e-book copy from Amazon's Kindle First program.

Good mystery/thriller book. Be forewarned: the main character is a priest, so don't be surprised by the talk of God, quoting of scriptures, etc...

I look forward to the next book

Part of me trying to clear out the books from my Kindle.

Unsure why my past self downloaded this because this was like an action-ish book? Not my favorite. lol and the POV switches were too much.

I also don’t like Corporations being a large part of the mystery so this is a me problem.

An interesting little thriller. Although I am unsure if I will continue the series, I enjoyed this book enough. I enjoyed the intertwining plots. The characters while simple were likable.

Once a gangster, living a life of crime, Luis Chavez is now a priest. When God turned his life around, he started working to change some of the broken messed up things in this world. The church can change lives, or can it? Well he knows the depth of the "dirt" that hides in the lives of his church's members, but is this changeable at the root level?

Kidnappings and cops, good and evil, human trafficking and so much more. This book is fast paced and is deep in real life issues. Mystery and mayhem, pit against hope and forgiveness.

Many twists, and plot lines kept me reading far into the night. My copy came from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review and nothing more.

Wheaton has taken headlines from modern news and provided backstory on them. The main character is a deeply committed and human man - flawed, but striving for good. Luis is a priest, but had been a tough gang kid. He is drawn into a behind the scenes world of slavery and abuse, all for the purpose of profit. This opened him up to multiple beatings and opened my eyes to the potential for abuse in so many inequitable situations.
