This is a great book to read aloud to an elementary child (8 and up), or for a child to read himself. As an adult I really enjoyed it as a quick, easy read with many good virtues...perseverance, positive attitude, self-reliance, friendship, tolerance, survival, respect, and love. It's been a popular book for decades and should be read by all ages.

I wasn’t sure what this book would be about when I started it. I had no idea what a cay was. In the beginning of the book, I was ready to slap the narrator but I was so glad to see him grow. Both Jack and I really enjoyed this story.
