So much power packed into this volume. Loved the way it worked together as a whole, with some (important) repeated poems, the photographs, and the deep perspective based on the words of those who were there. Really loved all the back matter too. Schools should definitely be using this as a resource!

Absolutely beautiful, heartfelt, and heart breaking. I hate this country, and what they've done to people of color. We NEED to read more things like this, we NEED to acknowledge the mistakes that were - and are continuously - made.

Wow. Just wow. The whole Civil Rights Movement in poems, 1877-1967. Many, many of the poems just knocked my socks off. Most of the information wasn't new to me, but it is good to have it all in one spot and in a very concise, readable format.

If you are a teen librarian you MUST buy at least one copy for your library. NOW!

A fantastic poetry collection that would be the perfect addition to any American literature or history class.
