One of the best books I’ve read in awhile. Full of heart, love, and loss as we journey through decades of friendship. Playing games, making games, and world-building through games were fundamental to the plot, but through the lens of story-telling and the familiar, cathartic feeling of finding yourself through story. You don’t have to be a gamer to appreciate this book, and I definitely am not. I could not put the book down.

It really picks up around the midpoint and then I couldn’t put it down, vocabulary was a bit tough but you get used to it. High praise!

This book absolutely lives up to the hype with an empathetic, decades spanning story about friendship, love, ambition, and game design. Suitable for people who game and those who don’t, by the end of this novel you will be enamored with the people who make games.
