I have enjoyed other works by Joan Didion and while this one is by no means bad, it is very dated. I did not feel like I got much out of this.

This isn’t one of her major books, but as always— a minor collection by her is worth more than a major work by mist.

I believe this is the third book I've read by Joan Didion and this book did not disappoint. Just starting off with her forward/introductory chapter hit me right in the gut. I had to put the book down to process the sad feelings which she so eloquently captured about losing a friend. It was like losing my mother and brother all over again. But when I picked the book up again, I dove in headfirst and was not disappointed. I love her writing style. I found her review/capture of the time leading up to Reagan to be fascinating. The slices of culture we read along the way are very well done.
An incredibly well-written book and I will definitely read more by her.
