I am so obsessed with this series. I had to grab Curse of the Poppy the day it released, and it did not disappoint. It had me on the edge of my seat, and by the time I finished it my mouth was hanging open. I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves a good mystery and a quick read. I could not put this (or the other books in the Penny Green series) down.

Another amazing read as part of the Penny Green series.it's amazing how much a new reporter can be connected to do many people and is not afraid to get to truth .. Emily organ is an incredible author and the way she writes you get drawn into the story with easy chapter .. Really easy books to read, I'll enjoy reading the next book in this series

I struggled between 3 and 4 stars in this one, mainly because I was very disappointed with everybody's detective skills here, as, as soon as the diaries were stolen I knew who was the culprit. And because I'm getting more and more fed up with the romantic sub-plot. James is a cad, and both, Charlotte and Penny, are worthy of a better man.

But I still was truly entertained by the story, and I keep getting more and more engaged with the secondary characters, so there is that :P

Reading the next story, as I'm very curious about Francis' adventure *grins*

Could have done without all the romance. I really enjoy this series and the setting.

The whole love square going on has become too tedious and none of the characters are likeable. I found myself cheering for James hurrying up and marrying Charlotte so it can be over with as neither him not Penny deserve each other.

Penny Green has become one of my favourite main characters since I began reading this series. A female news reporter in the late Victorian era was uncommon but Penny bucks the trend by being not just a reporter, but one that goes further in her search for justice.

During a burglary in Fitzrovia a woman is murdered. Later a man is killed in an opium den in Limehouse. Is there any connection between these two deaths and the following murders. Penny Green believes so and tries to convince Inspector James Blakely of Scotland Yard. But danger lurks for them both.
Another well-written mystery in this series
