Cassie uprooted her life and moved across the country to take care of her estranged mother. This meant changing fire departments, facing past hardships, and navigating the sexism of her new job. She expects the struggle of being a woman firefighter in a small town, but she doesn't expect to learn forgiveness and love.

I continue to surprise myself by enjoying romance novels. At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about this one, but it sucked me in. I became so invested in the love story, but I also loved seeing Cassie learn forgiveness and allow people to let her in.

For those who watch Station 19 and enjoy it, you'd like this novel! It reminded me of it in a lot of ways.

Sexism, misogyny, and sexual assault warning. Parts of this were tough to read as a woman.

I struggle to see how what Cassie's mom did wasn't cheating.

Reading the only other Katherine Center book on #kindleunlimited - Things You Save in a Fire.

Introduction: Two firefighters. The guy is a rookie from a long line of well loved local firefighters. The girl is an out of state transfer to move close to her sick mom.

What I Like:
- Another strong independent woman
- Absolute golden retriever puppy of a man
- I learned a lot about firefighters haha

What I Don’t Like:
- Girlfriend needs therapy
- The ending felt rushed to me.
- I didn’t totally believe the romance. :/

This book is so special to me. It was my first Katherine Center book & I am not sure exactly what I was expecting going in, but it turned all my expectations upside down & surpassed them by MILES. The way that Katherine writes about relationships & how we as humans change as we go through experiences in life is inspiring- truly inspiring. While I’ve seen her books categorized as “feel-good” romances/women’s lit, I think that descriptor is a disservice to the heavy topics that are so artfully written about in this story. But, I do feel so much hope after watching a woman who is so tenacious & relatable learn to navigate forgiveness. I couldn’t put it down, not because I wanted to continue the romance (which is great, but I would categorize as a sub-sub-plot) but, because I was so invested in our FMC’s arc (she’s a firefighter btw & she’s so badass- I want to be her). The title is also just so perfect & every time I look at the cover or say the title it really invokes all the feelings/take-aways I had from this story. Katherine Center is quickly becoming an auto-buy author for me, but it’ll be hard to top this. 🔥🩵🚒
