After hearing about this book for quite a while I finally got round to reading it and I'm glad it didn't disappoint. It was such an gripping story and so interesting to read from the point of view of the killer, learning about what could lead a child to do such a crime and how their life it effected from that moment on.

I toyed with giving this book four stars;however, I feel like the "I liked it" phrase that accompanies three stars is a more appropriate statement than the "I loved it" four star rating.
Overall, the tone was sad and heart-wrenching. I felt for JJ and I felt for Alice. Growing up with a mother like Carol Jones can't have been easy. Growing up never really feeling truly loved and cared for and like you mattered must have been awful. And then you reach your young adult years and you can't seem to find a balance. My heart goes out to her. I can understand Jennifer's outbursts as a child. They seem to me to be those outbursts of emotion that most children have as they grow even if they seemed more violent in nature. I almost wonder if the author wasn't trying to hint at a darker personality lying under the surface? Possibly a result of lack of parenting? Possibly a hint at nature over nurture? Could JJ have turned out differently had her circumstances been different, or is she inherently bad?
I hadn't realized that there was a sequel to the book. Unfortunately it isn't available at my library and might prove quite difficult to get my hands on. I am interested in finding where she ends up!

Read in my teens, I remember not being really into it.
Just shelving it here!
