Adeline once believed her brother loved her, but when she needed him most, he was blinded to her by his own pain and pride. As he became the beast of Palinar, Adeline began a new life as a townsperson in the neighboring country of Talinos. She even came to like her new life. Until she became trapped in a curse of her own.

Now Gabriel, the crown prince of Talinos, has showed up to find and rescue Adeline, but she didn't want to be found, and as much as she'd like to be rescued, she's not sure she wants the dashing, daring prince of her childhood to be the one to do it.

I had no background knowledge of this fairy tale, so everything was a surprise to me! Adeline was such a good lead character. She is kind and compassionate but far from a superficially perfect heroine. The pain of her past experiences made her guarded and independent, especially when it comes to Prince Gabe. She is the first in the series to actively resist falling in love.

Language: don't recall any
Violence: a wolf is shot, the villain stabs someone
Romance: a few kisses near the end of the book

This novel was an improvement from Snow's story. It had more mystery and excitement.

I had a hard time getting into this one as well, and when I did, it felt like the pacing either moved too fast or too slow. I think it's better than some of the others in the Beyond the Four Kingdoms series, and worth a read.

I've read quite a few fairytale retelling, but never one about Swan Lake. This was lovely! I love the message of being willing to be vulnerable and trusting those around you. Can't wait to read more from this author.

Fun read. A little slow in the beginning, but the last third of the book was well worth it. Always loved the Swan Princess story, and this was a great take on it.
