I read the version out of the Charles Dickens Complete Collection by Doma. This was a wonderful read. For years, I have been wanting to read this during the holidays and I don't know why I didn't do it sooner. This is the understatement of the century but A Christmas Carol oozes with emotion and Christmas joy. You can hear the music, feel their joy, sorrow and smell the food. Having only seen adaptations and knowing all of the cultural references, Scrooges journey is so powerful and timeless. I think I am going to make this a yearly read.

Nem kell bemutatnom a könyvet szerintem :) Egy ideje kíváncsi voltam, milyen lehet Scrooge úr könyvben! Mikor máskor tudtam volna nekiállni, mint karácsony tájékán. Pontosan ugyanilyennek képzeltem el a könyvet, így boldog voltam a befejezésnél. Szerintem ez a történet igazán érdekes maga módján, és sok-sok embernek kéne elolvasnia, így valamiféle fogalmuk lehetne arról, hogy a karácsony nem csak az ajándékokról és a pénzről szólnak.
Mindegyik szellem külön-külön tartogatott érdekességeket, de a Jelen Karácsony szelleme fogott meg a leginkább.
A legfurcsább az volt, hogy meg is nevettetett a könyv; "Micsoda rettentő híradás volt, hogy a kisbabát tetten érték, amint szájába dugott egy babakonyhába való serpenyőt, és több, mint gyanús, hogy lenyelt egy fatalpra ragasztott játékpulykát! Micsoda megnyugvás volt, mikor kiderült, hogy ez az aggodalom - tévedés"

Is there anything better than complete redemption and transformation? Reading A Christmas Carol as an adult is convicting and inspiring. We have the power to change lives through our gifts, whether they be monetary blessings or simply the way we treat others with dignity and value. May we all keep Christmas well, year round, with the same joy and delight as a changed Ebenezer.
*Update: I may just have to read this every year. It completed my Christmas again in 2020.

I love this book like no other.
I just read it for the first time, and as I read through it I pictured in my head me and my future family softly turning the pages in a well-loved, often-read edition. There were so many beautiful phrases, beautiful words that only Dickens could string together so honestly and meaningfully.
The story is simple and it's a story that everybody knows. But to think of Dickens' creativity to write this before anything like it had been done before? To imagine the kindly trembling hand of the last Ghost, or the blinding light, or the face on the door-knocker? It's wildly imaginative. Decades later it still works.
I think it's beautiful that this book lasts throughout the ages..... and I know that as long as there is a human society that continues to appreciate literature, this small book will be cherished.... its romantic values, its simple redemption... it's absolute beauty.
