Okay... so I have been singing the praises of Cemetery Boys for almost a year now, so when I heard he was writing a Peter Pan retelling, I knew that I’d be reading it as soon as possible. After finishing it, I can now say that Aiden Thomas is one of my new auto-buy authors.

This was such a new take on Peter Pan. The twists, the turns... I was LITERALLY hooked from the very beginning. I got all the feels from the original, as well as a whole new look at Peter... as if he was thrust into a modern thriller.

I won’t give much more information than that, because I need you to read it!

Meh. Was disappointed. Thought the plot was really slow, especially in the first two thirds. Thought the characters were not engaging. Didn't understand why the dad was such a dick, and he never really got any redemption arc. In fact, when her memory came back, I thought for sure it would be him staggering out of the woods, which would've at least explained his crummy attitude. Did appreciate some of the plot machinations in the last third. Overall, a slog for me but keep hearing people rave about Cemetery Boys so might have to check that one out.

This author's first book (CEMETERY BOYS) was fantastic, so I was thrilled to see he had a retelling/remix coming out next.

LOST IN THE NEVER WOODS has the perfect amount of mystery and magic; a beautiful exploration of trauma and grief; a stellar teen voice as she observes her family (immediate and found), friends, and the adults around her; and a great balance of action and small moments. It was moving and funny, swoony and scary, familiar (because who doesn't feel like the Peter Pan world is just another part of their own?) and fresh.

A wonderful YA that I genuinely enjoyed reading from first to last page.

this book reads like it’s not sure whether to be a middle-grade or a young-adult book. i’m an avid reader of both, but this just didn’t sit well with me.

the main character, wendy, does not act eighteen. or at least, she was written like an eighteen-year-old from a middle-grade book, if that makes sense. she’s stubborn and annoying. the only thing i liked about peter (and this entire book) was the nostalgia it gave because his character follows disney’s peter pan. other than that, he’s completely annoying. we’re on an extremely time-critical mission to save the missing kids and my powers, do you wanna get ice cream?

the plot and writing were all kinds of messy, generic, and predictable. the twist came out of nowhere and in summation, this is just a lengthened fanfiction of that popular peter pan fan theory.

This book started out really slow and while it wasnt objectively bad, it just didnt grab my attention and I didnt really latch onto any of the characters. But it definitely picked up towards the end. I really enjoyed the twists and the added lore to the classic Peter Pan story. Aiden Thomas took this story in a direction that I never anticipated but totally made sense. I also appreciated the mention of mental health at the very end. I think the thing that felt most discordant to me about this book is that Wendy is 18 and going off to college soon and swears occassionally, but it still kinda read as a middle grade novel.
