I was so happy to get the chance to read this before it comes out in February!
This was a beautiful novel written in letters (which I’m always a sucker for). Simple, heart-wrenching, and poignant. You don’t want to miss this!

don't cry for me is an epistolary novel, told through a series of letters from jacob, a dying father, to isaac, his gay son. the two have been estranged because of jacob's abuse and homophobia.
jacob tells the whole story of his life through the letters, from growing up in rural arkansas to meeting his wife and raising isaac. his story is deeply affected by growing up Black in the south and the generational trauma that comes with that, which also impacts how he deals with his son's sexuality.
the story is well crafted and beautifully written, but it feels odd and incomplete not to hear from isaac within the narrative at all in a story that is in so many ways about him and the awful things that his father put him through.
