Couldn't even make it through the second essay. Sounds like Chelsea is an awful person and I didn't want to read about any more of her abuse.

Unfinished! I just couldn't do it. I was looking for a book that would make me laugh, and while I've always found Chelsea Handler and her Chelsea Lately team to be very funny and always good for a chuckle right before bed, this one left me feeling more anxious than giddy. I originally wanted to read "Are You There Vodka, it's Me Chelsea", but the library didn't have it, so I switched out my Goodreads selection with this book. Mistake. A more appropriate title would be: "Pranks that Chelsea Handler Played on Me". Surprisingly, nearly every single entry (written by her friends and family) is about the vicious (or maybe just appeared vicious to me, as I'm not one for these types of stunts) pranks Chelsea has pulled on them. Funny? Not really, more angst and nervousness inducing. I think the book was an attempt at self-deprecating humor but instead, her pranks came off as mean-spirited, repetitive, and not humorous at all.

I really like Chelsea and am fond of particular recurring members on her roundtable on her show, but once each comedian has his or her own pen and space to write, it's like each of them is competing to get every little tidbit of humor out of it as if his/her life depends on it (and who knows, maybe it does. She doesn't sound like a complete peach to work for). Not every line has to be rip-roaring hilarious but they sure do try, and it's exhausting to read. I wasn't looking for exhausting; I wanted to be entertained.

I liked a few bits and pieces from the book (I didn't read each entry in order) and found the entry "written" by her dog Chunk to be by far the funniest out of all of them, but I know I'm not in the mood to read the whole thing in full.

2 1/2 stars? I thought it was kinda funny, but the last couple chapters fell really flat for me. It also made me highly suspicious of people pranking me while I was reading this.

This is the first time I've read a Chelsea Handler book, and having not ever watched her stand-up or her current show I wasn't really sure if she was as hilarious as others have led me to believe. But, I can now say that I am highly amused by her. Yay!

I'm seriously interested in reading the books that she has written now, which I've heard are much funnier than this one. (But, I had some serious laughing fits reading this one regardless!)

All I know is that the people she loves are a brave lot, because Chelsea seems to take advantage of all of them!

This book has absolutely no socially redeeming feature, so naturally, I really liked it. Chelsea Handler spends much of her time creating practical jokes with which to bedevil her friends. The rule seems to be that if she decides to make you a victim of her demonic humor, it's a sign of her love and respect. Unfortunately, I share this worldview which might be the reason that Chelsea Handler is one of my guilty pleasures. If I like you, I'm all over you, if I don't like you, I can't be bothered. Some of the jokes were truly funny and some were truly vicious. But I tended to laugh at both. I think that my favorite was when Chelsea convinced one of her fellow bridesmaids at a wedding that the bride was afraid to sing a song to her new husband and needed someone to sing with her. It was only after the "duet" started--to the surprise of the bride--that the extent of the joke was realized. And, of course, it's captured on the video, forever. Thank goodness that Chelsea Handler spends so much time working to embarass and humiliate her friends. If she wasn't so engaged, the rest of us would be in trouble.

Jaq & Lindsey I have on kindle if you want to borrow! This isn't as funny as the others b/c it was (duh the title should be the first clue) written by friends and family of Chelsea. Even though it was hilarious to see some of the stunts she pulls off! I would be scared to be her friend, but it' a guaranteed good time. She also writes a little note at the end of each friend chapter. After reading this book I think it was clear from very early on to her friends/family that she would be famous. Some of the things she says as a six, and also a 10 year old are unbelievable. Worth the read, but I only cried from laughing in a few chapters versus the majority from the the other books.
