Okay this was very drawn out. And then the conclusion was very left field. And the main character was very unlikeable. Very whiny and “woe is me.”
In the beginning the mystery was interesting but because it was so drawn out and so much inner dialogue… it got boring. And I’m usually a HUGE fan of Koontz. Not a fan of this one.

Plot was choppy & main character was oblivious, naive & completely unprepared for a man who is immersed in conflict every page of this book. Ending was abrupt & unimpressive. I was expecting better from Koontz.
Moderate: Gun violence, Sexual assault, Violence, and Murder

This is, I believe, my first Dean Koontz book. I don’t really recall ever reading anything by him before. This intrigued me at the beginning, I started getting bored in the middle, and then I started getting annoyed by the end. I don’t really like the route this took towards the end. I also don’t like how this had a happy (if you could call it that) ending

Wow. What a Twist of Events
This was on my first read by the author and honestly, I was immediately intrigued. The book is about 96 chapters in length with some really cool visual features between each part, along with the interactive front cover. Additionally, the narrator gave the book a sense of edginess as I read.
While I won’t spoil it for others, I did read many of the reviews which basically said that this wasn’t a good book or wasn’t the author’s best work. Since I haven’t read other books, I can’t say for sure, but it was heart wrenching in many areas and left me curious to know what would happen next. The main character was obsessed with Emily, so much so that he saw her in other people and everything reminded him of her. I read the book in 7 days, even with a busy schedule, so that says a lot about how much I enjoyed it.

There is a lot going on in this book, many parts had to be played twice.

I didn’t like that he took a turn for a sci-fi ending. I would never have chosen to read this book if I couldn’t believe the reality of the mystery.
Moderate: Physical abuse, Rape, Violence, Kidnapping, Stalking, and Murder

Really just kind of 'meh' throughout. It starts way too quickly by diving straight into the deep end of what remains an entirely unconvincing plot and characters, leaving little time for readers to even accustom themselves to the book. Plenty of action keeps things somewhat interesting but it's all show and no go - you never feel fulfilled by any of the developments.

One of my least favorite books by dean Koontz, couldn't even finish it
