Dus 3 sterren.

Abwarten. Sacken lassen. Verdauen. In Erinnerungen schwelgen. Geniessen.

. Es una novela muy original, la recomiendo.

Nothomb crafts emotional and psychological experiences with spare, crystalline precision, leaving ample space for personal reflection. I also think that the journey with this particular book is enhanced by it's relatively short length; I couldn't help but devour it in one sitting.
Fortunately, I was blessed with a mother who showed neither contemptuous jealousy nor smothering possessive love, but the story still lingers in my mind as a cautionary tale for when I feel the toxic stirrings of jealousy within my own heart.

I would recommend this if you are interested in the subtle, and often cruel, mechanisms of the human heart, and an author who cleanly expresses them.

(I'm sure ample credit is due to the translator as well for keeping with the concise and potent tone!)

3 stars - It was good.

She had often observed people’s incredible ability to forget: they forgot what didn’t suit them, or rather, they forgot when it suited them to forget - in other words, very often. Now she could sense the intensity of her mother’s pain, and the sincerity of her forgetting.

A terse novel that aptly portrays a narcissistic parent/child relationship, but it does not come close to conveying the gut punching toxicity that David Vann weaved in [b:Aquarium|22668848|Aquarium|David Vann|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1425051530s/22668848.jpg|42171031].
