So this took me a super long time to read ONLY because I'd seen the movie and loved it, and I NEVER read things twice anymore. Considering how similar this was to the movie, that's why I took it slowly, so I didn't get bored out of my brains and give it 1 star! Either way, I read most of it in the last week, from like chapter 12 to the end, because I wanted to read it, not because I had to, and I used it to buffer out my other books I read so I don't get stuck on one thing. The storyline to this is great, the thing I found wasn't however was that this book was way way too many short sentences. It looked a little shopping list. Usually I hate that paragraphs were so long but were only one sentence. This just felt a little odd to read because it was so many short ones. All around a great story though and will read the next before the movie!

I loved this in a Hunger Games sort of way. Not in a best piece of English Lit sort of way. Can't wait to read book 2! I agree with my friend, Tonya, it was more enjoyable than The Hunger Games...there, I said it!
So glad I read it! Loved the characters and the "factions" concept.

When I read people's blogs about not being able to put this book down, I was a bit skeptic. But I was wrong. I finished this almost 500 page book in two days because I had to keep reading. I agree with the next "Hunger Games" description. I totally thought that as I was reading it. Already encouraged one of my students to check it out when it is published.

This book was a lot better than I expected. It took me until about halfway to be totally sucked in but it was very fast-paced and I liked all the characters and I finished it within about 8 hours. The writing wasn't great and at times I was a little jarred by the first person-present tense narration but overall I thought it was engaging. I liked the way the concept of the personality-based factions was explored though I thought the simulation test was simplistic and probably not enough to assess someone's personality on to the extent where you'd make such a major life choice, but I was able to suspend my disbelief. It took me a while to warm up to Tris but once I did I found I really liked her. I liked how she was a strong character while also being quite vulnerable and her inner conflict was interesting. I found the romantic subplot a lot more interesting than I do in most of the novels of this type.

My favorite parts were the little bits of philosophy thrown in throughout the book, the wondering and searching of the protagonist.

Film >>>> book

The only part of this book I prefer over the film is that you get more interactions with the dauntless born initiates like Uriah otherwise I'm purely team film (which may or may not be because of Theo James)

excited to get stuck into the other books cos they're massively different to the films, I read them ages ago but can't remember them at all (minus the end of allegiant which sucks)

This was an amazing book with believable, lovable, and tragic characters. It had a strong story line, and I've already recommended it to some of my close friends.
