These books are fun. I like the characters, the writing is pretty decent, and the story is interesting. I’m excited for the next book!

The main character has anxiety, and I feel pretty seen by it. I feel that the depression she goes through is surprisingly nuanced. 

The one ick I have is that I’m unsure of how I feel about this “last full blooded fae” thing. I know it’s a chosen one trope. I know it’s not meant to be anything other than magic girl shenanigans. It just also feels… eugenics is potentially a strong word, but somewhere in that realm. Something about it is a little ick.

This book felt like an adventure and kept me on my toes where I felt fully engaged and engrossed in the story. The ending/cliff hanger was not what I was expecting and I’m looking forward to reading the next book when it comes out in October. I just bought the currently available books for this series and pre-ordered the final book, A Reign of Rose, since they are definitely worth re-reading in the future.

I liked this one better than the first partly because I have a soft spot for quests and also there was finally some character growth and communication.

I liked this book much better than the first one. This book feels much more unique and not just a cookie cutter romantasy novel like I felt Dawn of Onyx was.
