So, I liked this first book. It wasn't my favorite manga or anything. I loved the characters, and the plot seems fun. I just started the second book and I'm hoping there is more interesting scenes that happen for sure, but I didn't hate it. If you like any of Kugane Maruyama's work, definitely read this series.

Phenomenal book ! All 14 volumes (waiting for the 15th) are really good.

This sure is…an isekai light novel.

I don’t know, maybe I’ve just read too much of the genre at this point. This was originally published in 2012 (and had previously been a web novel) so perhaps the landscape of isekai has just progressed and mutated so much since then that Overlord no longer brings anything fresh to the table.

I wanted this to be good. I love isekai, so I had high expectations going in. Overlord provides weak plot, agonizingly slow pacing and flat characters. Most importantly, an anime fandub could easily provide a better translation.

This light novel has everything you could want in a fantasy and much more. A salaryman turns into his avatar in another world! This fast-paced light novel will be hooked in the first chapter. If You're a gamer, you will appreciate the details and if your a lover of dark fantasy you will love the morally grey outlook on Ains. Can’t wait to pick up the next one.

I'm honestly biased towards this story, hence the high rating lol
This is a light novel so there's obviously no reason to try making any sort of deep understanding about it but it IS very entertaining. The characters are very obviously based on stereotypes, as Momonga himself usually reminds us but they don't come off as annoying since the author does provide quirks and personality for each of them. I never read the online version so I don't know how many things changed but the flow of the story is very well places and entertaining.
This book is basically the first arc that establishes the main characters and gives a glimpse to the world where they arrived so generally speaking, nothing much happens but it's still an entertaining read
