I adored this. I can't get enough of the way the writer describes and puts to words both actions and abstract things like feelings and senses.

The case itself being simple and with no unknowns (
Spoilerthe daughter's involvement was I think all too clear and that's fine
), but posing an actual moral question for the MCs - and wow that first part where you have a front row seat to it, I loved how that was written. Of course we have the bigger story unfolding in the background and it's all so well meshed together.

There's also awareness about the perception of police by people who have only been on the receiving end of its ugly side (also present in the previous books in the series).

Also also, the book feels more mature than the previous ones, in that the characters act more their age - less swooning over the other, more direct acknowledgment both to themselves and in front of others.

Also also also - Curt Bonnem does a fantastic job with the audiobook narration, I'll absolutely miss that when I get to reading the ones that are not out yet.

I can’t believe I’m loving this series so much and the two men haven’t even gotten together yet! It’s book 4!!!

And yet, there is so much sexual tension and longing with these two. They want each other, almost need each other, and it scares them. I’m enjoying this dance, but I sincerely hope they get together in the next book. Finally.! It’s so time.

There’s a mystery surrounding their backgrounds, especially Yoon, in spades. Who knows what’s up with the strange letters being written in each homicide crime scene. Though we do get more info, I hope Yoon’s life isn’t in danger. It probably is. His ex? But what kind of an ex? We get deeper. I’m intrigued and apprehensive to find out more.

This homicide case was more about morals and ethics, how the letter of the law may not work as perfectly as one may expect. Yoon works on this case solo, while Malcolm deals with being off duty from his injuries.

Malcolm’s ex wife causes a bit of problems, I’m unsure if I want her around. I feel bad she’s still in love with Malcolm, despite knowing he doesn’t reciprocate. Makes sense to add more layers to this already layered series.

Sade again makes a cameo, they’re quite an intriguing person.

I was happy to see Yoon form a friendship with Stinson. I really like her.

I love you, Malcolm. BUT MOST OF THE TIME I JUST WANNA SCREAM BECAUSE OF YOUR BAD DECISIONS ISTG XJJXJSNRNF. I'm gonna protect Seong-Jae with my whole heart now. I really thought they would get together already.

4.5 stars. Really good! I was unsure about the case at first because you find out what happened basically from the very start of the book, and it didn't seem complicated or like it should take Seong-Jae too long to figure it out, but I liked the twist of it being more about Seong-Jae having to decide how to handle the aftermath once he solved it. I liked Malcolm's ex a lot and her interactions with Seong-Jae while also hating
Spoilerher and Maolcom hooking up again — I mean, I get how it could happen, and I have no worries about him and Seong-Jae getting together eventually, but I just worry about the potential for miscommunication when Seong-Jae finds out, because of course he will, and I hate unnecessary drama. I mean, I feel like they have enough obstacles to getting together without adding more, you know?
I also loved how lost Seong-Jae was without Malcolm and how he tried not to rely on his help, but still went back to him for advice. The scene where
SpoilerMalcolm kind of tries to make a move/confess his feelings and Seong-Jae says no and Gabi interrupts was SO good. But also, as much as I love slow burn, I will say I'm getting about ready for them to get together already.
Anyways, this continues to be a very enjoyable series!

The way I am screaming at these two dummies. And yes, screaming out loud, in real life, because COME ON!
I’m am so frustrated with Yoon and Khalaji, but these bloody books have drawn me so far in, I don’t think I’ll be able to stop reading them any time soon.
