A story about the amazing, inspiring woman who was the first woman to thru-hike the AT, back before thru-hiking was really something people set out to do, and certainly before it had a name. The author wove in her past as well as newspaper articles to give a much more full picture of the historical context for her hike, and what people of the time thought and said about it, which was fascinating. I do think the end bit where he connects back to his own hike felt a bit disjointed, but otherwise a well-written, interesting, highly readable book.
