There are some Julia Donaldson books that don't work for me (Highway Rat being a good example) but this one does. It's nice to see a fresh illustrator take on Donaldson's work and I think Sara Ogilvie is fantastic. The expressions, movement and graceful shape of the protagonist: Nell the dog.
The story celebrates our passion for reading and all the joys that books bring. When the school's library simply vanishes overnight, it is up to Nell to sniff out the perpetrator. The rhyming helps jolly along the story but it is the message of the importance of literature and libraries is an excellent one.

5yo wanted to read it immediately. It's a fun story, with a good ending and all the rhythmic language you've come to expect from Julia Donaldson.

I will start by saying I *love* Donaldson's writing, rhyming and rhythm. And I love a good dog book. And my kids really loved it. My one issue with this one is the "thief" why is he pictured the way that he is? How can he be an adult that can read, but not have heard of or know of the library until the kids swoop in and save the day? Why would he only steal from a children's school library? Maybe I'm thinking too hard about a children's book, but the whole thing made me uncomfortable.

Fun story about a dog, her love of books, and using her sense of smell to track down all kinds of missing items.

I usually enjoy [a:Julia Donaldson|103243|Julia Donaldson|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1224775572p2/103243.jpg]'s books and I expected to love this one, especially since it's about libraries and I'm a librarian. Unfortunately it didn't hook me in quite the same was as some of Donaldson's other works ([b:A Gold Star for Zog|13228548|A Gold Star for Zog|Julia Donaldson|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1344363997s/13228548.jpg|13437356]). I still enjoyed it, and it has a great message, but it just wasn't my favorite.

Really cute. Ted reading books in a wheelbarrow in his backyard is absolutely a new goal I didn't know I had.

This story begins with a dog. It ends with getting the whole community involved. I read this with a 3 1/2 year old. She pointed at all the things she recognized with excitement. There are several lines on each page (sometimes more) describing the sleuth like details. Kids who can read by themselves will enjoy it too.
