I LOVED IT !! It was, again, sooo much better than the other two books in the series so far. It was super intense and the plot was incredible.
I thought it was great for them to go to Idris. I loved how the city was described and I was super glad that the whole book was set there.
When Clary and Luke got to Alicante I was surprised that he had a sister, Amatis, since she had never been mentioned before. She was an excellent character, being like a mother figure to Clary and always trying to stand up for her and to keep her out of trouble. I hope we get to see more of her in the next books!
I can’t say that I am surprised that Simon got locked up in the Gard but I was surprised with the fact that he didn’t want to get rescued. He was definitely more mature in this book which I preferred to him being an annoying, geeky boy.
Also I was surprised that Samuel was actually Hodge! I was not expecting that at all.
Clary and Jaces relationship at the beginning was definitely awkward and rocky, but I liked that they teamed up to get the book for Magnus from Jaces childhood home. I thought that it was really clever to have the book inside a cooking book and I was shocked when they discovered Ithuriel in the cellar!
When the demons came into Alicante I was shook. So many shadowhunters had gotten killed, including little Max which was super upsetting.
Sebastian (Jonathon) was a walking red flag from the beginning, how they did not know he was dodgy is beyond me.
When Clary made the alliance rune I thought it was really really cool and the fact that the Clave finally let downworlders have a seat on the Clave was extraordinary.
The way Sebastian handled Jace in the cave was actually brutal. He was sooo cruel no wonder he has demon blood in him.
I was glad that Jace and Clary were able to discover they weren’t siblings, so they can finally be together:)
I was actually shocked when Jace got killed. I was like ‘how are these last three books going to be good without Jace’ but of course Clary came to the rescue. She spoke to Raziel and was able to bring Jace back from the dead which was phenomenal.
I really don’t believe that Sebastian is dead, he is definitely going to appear again !

Blended reading (audio + physical)

The Details:
Narrated by Natalie Moore
Unabridged

I really enjoyed seeing the magical world of Idris. I think being in this world and seeing the different culture there created even more enjoyment and helped to make this one of my favourite reads of the series so far.

So many pivotal points happened in the 3rd installment - I wonder if it was originally a series of trilogies because this felt like a really satisfying conclusion.

The family dynamics got so much more messy and complex, I was constantly shocked by all the reveals - it was fantastic!

Simon flourished in this book. I can see great things for him in the future and I really want to see him succeed.

I loved seeing the dynamic between the nephilim and the downworlders adapt throughout this story. It wasn't a simple fix, but took time, had conspiracies and duplicity and was a great use of plot development.

Can't wait to read book 4.

oh my gosh, poor Max :( that's so sad!
I also felt bad again for my bestie Simon. He's always being used - Isabelle using him as a distraction for her grief over the death of her little brother... but I mean  hey at least she said that's what it is straight away.

The tension and suspense and worldbuilding and character growth and ROMANCE and angst and pure silliness in this book was EVERYTHING I needed.

10/10 recommend.

I wasn't really paying a great deal if attention to this book as I was listening to it quite honestly. I've read this one before, and therefore already knew the major plot points before they happened. For the most part there weren't really any surprises in it, except for a few scenes I'd forgotten happened.
~
I'm glad I reread it because I do like this series but ultimately I just needed to read it to be able to get on to other books in this series I haven't read yet or don't remember all that well, like The Dark Artifices series.
~
As sad as this book might be for someone reading it for the first time, I didn't really feel any kind of emotions towards the events of the book despite knowing those things are sad things to have happened. And I don't know how to feel having finished the 3rd book in the main Mortal Instruments series.

City of Glass
4.75/5

- i really liked this book. it kept me hooked and the plot twists (the ones i didn't see coming such as
Hodge being Samuel
) made me jaw drop
- yk again i could really do without the whole
Clary and Jace believe they are siblings but still go for it anyways thing. and it didn't have to drag on for TWO AND A HALF BOOKS

- i also could've done without that whole thing between Sebastian and Clary
especially since there's a chance Sebastian knew Clary was his sister :/

- anyways ignoring that, i loved seeing Idris and i love that the whole plot was located there
- oh my god
valentine died thank god i hated him i also hated that he killed jace

- this is pretty close up there with City of Bones (maybe it's a bit higher idk) but City of Ashes is definitely the worst one so far
- ALSO WHY DID
MAX HAVE TO DIE

Loved the epic battle scenes and the descriptions. Maybe a little hard to get into at first
